About the author
Mehr Jiwan Khan (1941–2019) was a distinguished civil servant and accomplished writer. Born in a village near Jhang, he rose from humble beginnings to earn a master’s in Political Science from Punjab University in 1962. After briefly teaching, he joined the Civil Services in 1965, serving across Pakistan, including East Pakistan during its turbulent years (in roels including as Secretary Interior and the President's Principal Secretary. With hislove for reading and writing, he wrote a collection of essays titled 'Tahmatein Chand' in his youth. After watching East Pakistan become Bangladesh, he wrote a novel called Deepati (Chota Dia). Post-retirement, he devoted himself to writing, writing columns producing acclaimed works like Jiwan Dhara, and Beggar’s Bowl.
